Getting hands-on with 3D for an educational intro

An adventurous intro for School of Motion's Cinema 4D Basecamp course, featuring one happy camper.

We were thrilled to collaborate with School of Motion, who asked us to create a short and sweet intro for their new course. With an open brief, we were guided by just one, cryptic phrase: ‘mountaineering’. We fully embraced the great outdoors, and went for a character-led piece that featured a lush mountainscape in pastel-coloured 3D.

Initial Experiments
Initial Character Design

The film follows a student learning how to use 3D animation tools, battling obstacles before they reach the peak. Cinema 4D’s UI features throughout in the form of tumbling cubes and tent-like prisms. For contrast, we created a plasticine-like feel to the lead character by adding thumb-print textures. The music was created by the talented Joe Melhuish.

The 15-second spot is a speedy, energetic whirlwind, and a reminder of the value platforms like School of Motion bring to creatives all over the world, who are navigating their way through the animation wilderness.
