Gizmo

How a friendly mascot humanised AI learning

Gamified education tool Gizmo used animation to connect with students and make learning fun.

Animation is key to making a brand mascot believable, connecting with the hearts and minds of any audience. The people behind Gizmo – an AI quiz tool to help students through their exams – brought us on board to turn their friendly axolotl character

into a loveable companion for their users. Working with Gizmo to discover their mascot’s personality, we brought the character to life through a series of short animated moments, each designed to support key interactions within the app.

The animated moments included facial expressions and full body animation to suit a range of feelings and reactions. We also produced animated

examples for select in-app game icons to liven up the experience each step of the way, along with a handy guide for the internal team to help with any future developments.

Rive ready

The work we did for the mascot was central to Gizmo’s in-product system, strategised and designed by creative agency Koto in collaboration with Studio Goblin.

We took care of everything from concept sketches to rough animatic to fully artworked and scalable vector animations – ensuring perfect playback in Lottie and Rive.
