A hero film for a meeting of minds

We rolled up our sleeves with a mix of hands-on techniques to create this opening animation for IBM's Dublin conference.

This mixed-media bonanza showcases the amazing work going on at IBM’s Research Lab in Dublin.

Together with Ogilvy Paris (who we teamed up with for the French Open interactive animations), we made one overarching film for the opening presentation at IBM’s conference, and three smaller films to be shown in viewing pods at the venue.

IBM fund research into innovative technology, and these videos reveal more about what exactly they do. The main film shows a team of top scientists working in the Research Lab in Dublin, while the ‘pod’ films focus on each of these individuals and their discoveries.

A really exciting aspect of this project was the mixed media approach. We were keen to make something that involved lots of techniques including stop motion with handmade paper models, motion graphics, 3D and 2D. The challenge was to get multiple characters to work across these very different spaces, which we achieved primarily through a consistent palette of bright colours and an overlaid effect.

Working with Animade has been an absolute pleasure. They’re the rare breed of production company that sits at the crossroads of great work and great people. Already looking forward to our next project with them.
