WeTransfer asked us to create original content for the launch of its creative platform, WePresent.
The short film, Tend, tells the story of a father and daughter living peacefully in the wilderness, until one day their familiar routine begins to fall apart.
The film premiered on WeTransfer’s editorial platform WePresent alongside its first official public screening at OFFF Barcelona.
Written and directed by Animade’s Tom Judd and Ed Barrett, who drew on their own experiences as fathers, the film focuses on just two characters: parent and child. A small fire is all the pair have for heat, light, protection and sustenance in the wild.
We see how the fire helps build their relationship, and life in the forest seems idyllic and sustainable. Yet, in an attempt to improve their daily routine, the father descends into an obsession that threatens to destroy everything that truly matters.
Human touch
While the story has elements of tension, we wanted to bring in moments of humour. Through their interactions and gentle character acting, we were able to develop the relationship between father and daughter.
Visual language
The film has no dialogue, leaving the narrative entirely in the hands of the animation and its accompanying sound design, created by our partners Sounds Like These.
