Our short film Bees is a charming tribute to one of nature’s busiest summer-time critters. Going for a simple geometric approach, we created a hive of hexagonal bees each going about their business, with a few chuckles thrown in for good measure.

Using a mix of golden, yolky yellows offset by black, the idea was to show bees in a playful way, giving them an extra dimension with their stylised shapes and woody textures. It was great to explore the modular possibilities of the hexagonal nature of their honeycombs, and have some fun with it.

What made the whole film even sweeter was the sound design and music by our pals at Sounds Like These. We teamed up with the British Beekeepers Association to share the piece, which got over 70,000 plays on Instagram, helping spread the word about the charity’s good work.
